‘The Best just got Better’

These are the words of Metric AB’s creator and ADPTR Audio founder, Marc Adamo. We are delighted to announce that the Metric AB, AKA the mastering engineer’s best friend, one of Plugin Alliance’s most popular plugins, got a major update today.

Metric AB Version 1.4 is available now from Plugin Alliance. Anyone, who previously bought Metric AB from PA, and MEGA Bundle subscribers, can download version 1.4 via the Plugin Alliance Installation Manager now.

Metric AB v1.4 key features

See and hear how your mix compares to a reference track by clicking an A/B button, with multiple playback options, meters, filters, and a loudness-matching tool that makes conducting audio comparisons a streamlined process.

OS and DAW Support

  • Support for Apple’s M1 and M2 chips.
  • AAX plugin format for Pro Tools.

User Interface

  • Resizable UI (S, M, L, XL).
  • All text is rendered for better clarity and to support resizing the UI.

Analysis Graphs

  • Re-optimized graphics drawing system that’s faster and smoother.

Sync Mode

  • Sync mode allows you to place a Cue marker to set the start point for playback; this means you can start the sync anywhere in a track.
  • Sync mode detects invalid song position information and prompts you to start the transport to set the sync start position. For example, Sync mode now works in Wavelab.
  • New PDC Mode: Provides support for hosts that do not report the correct plugin delay compensation to plugins. For example, Logic Pro exhibits this issue when bus tracks are enabled. To fix the problem, click the PDC button to open the PDC window. You’ll hear both the A and B streams playing at the same time. Edit the PDC time until the tracks sync. Close the PDC window and restart the transport.

Loudness Meter and Matching

  • The Loudness Match button is now visible using the Compact view. It’s found next to the Mono button under the output meter.
  • New loudness match modes: Match Single and Match All. These features are found within the quick access controls under the output meter.
  • Previously, you could loudness match the B stream to the A stream, but now you can also match the A stream to the B stream.
  • There’s a new Match to Target Loudness feature that defaults to -14 LUFS. You can adjust the value on the preferences page.
  • You now have the option to match the track with the lowest volume.
  • A loudness metering option has been added to keep meters running when switching between analysis pages. Click the transport icon and select “Latch to DAW Transport” to activate this feature.

Dynamics Meter

  • A dynamics metering option has been added to keep meters running when switching between analysis pages. Click the transport icon and select “Latch to DAW Transport” to activate this feature.

Analysis Modes (Spectrum / Correlation / Stereo Image)

  • You can now select graph types independently for each analysis page. For example, you may want to use a plot graph for the Spectrum analyzer, an octave graph for the Correlation meter, and a multi-band graph for the Stereo Image meter.

File Compatibility

  • M4A audio file compatibility for Windows. Mac has had M4A compatibility since V1.

Filter Bank

  • Filters have been re-designed for enhanced accuracy.
  • You can now drag the filter range area with the mouse (left-right motion) to re-position the filter and sweep through frequencies.
  • The scroll wheel can now be used to edit the size of the filter range. The minimum range is one octave, while the maximum is the full range of selectable frequencies.
  • You can use the GUI’s drag ball to move the range; this is helpful when the range is very small. It’s also now possible to use the scroll wheel to resize the range.
  • Filter presets remember your last-used settings. Previously, if you adjusted the range of frequencies selected by a filter, the range would reset when you toggled to a different filter.

Organization

  • Removed the Missing Files command on the loading menu. When you load a preset with missing audio files, there’s an option to remove them from the session automatically.
  • Added folders for preset organization.

Settings and Behaviour

  • There’s an option to “Revert to A Stream on Close.” You can toggle this feature on/off by navigating to Settings > Default Settings.

MIDI Parameters

  • All automation parameters are now available to MIDI controllers. Previously, some parameters did not appear in certain DAWs.

Loop Markers

  • When you right-click on a loop region, there’s an option to “Reset Loop Region,” which maximizes the loop region to the duration of the song.

Text Support for Audio Files

  • A wider range of character support has been added to display audio file names in different languages correctly.
  • To view the full name of long-track titles that are truncated, you can now hover over a track slot with your cursor. The text will scroll, allowing you to read the full track title.

Bug Fixes

  • The Correlation window no longer gets stuck on Windows.
  • The filter bank’s filter slopes now update correctly based on user preferences.
  • The YouTube and TIDAL loudness presets are now set to -14 LUFS.
  • Previously, the latency report was off by 1 sample, but this has now been fixed.
  • The dB/Hz popup on the Spectrum graph is now always visible.
  • The dB range on the Spectrum analyzer can now be set to +36 dB. Previously, this value was locked at 0 dB.
  • Loudness meters now update when switching to Hi-Resolution mode (0-18 LUFS).
  • Cue Select buttons now transmit automation data and smart controls.
  • The high-filter band is now correctly calibrated.
  • Filters are no longer reducing the volume of the audible range.
  • Spectrum bar graphs have been calibrated flat to pink noise.
  • FFT Weighting only affects the Plot mode now. Previously, it was affecting all bar graphs.
